What should I wear?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. You’ll find people dressed in many different styles at St. Timothy’s, from jeans and t-shirts to shirts, ties and jackets.
Is your building accessible?
St. Timothy’s is a fully wheelchair accessible building. There is an entrance ramp located at the south-west door leading directly to the sanctuary. An elevator and stair lift provide access to all floors of the building. A family/wheelchair accessible washroom is next to the parish hall.
What happens when I arrive?
You will be welcomed by a greeter and given a bulletin, which contains all the prayers, and lists the hymns, which can be found in the blue hymn books located in the pews. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. You can sit wherever you feel comfortable.
What about my children?
You’re very welcome to keep your children with you for the whole service, but please read here about our excellent kids’ programming that runs all through the year, including summer and long weekends. Before each service, a craft table is set up in the baptistry (open area on the left of the pews) which children are welcome to use.
Are you a welcoming congregation?
St. Timothy’s welcomes all people regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or marital status. We are proud supporters of the Anglican presence in the annual Pride Parade.
How will I know what to do?
You might be wondering when you should do: kneel, sit, stand and/or say “Amen.” As a general rule, we sit to listen, stand to sing or proclaim, and pray. Just relax and follow what others are doing. If you find it more comfortable to remain seated, or prefer to kneel, the choice is yours. We sing at many points in the 10 am Sunday service, led by our beautiful choir. Don’t worry if you don’t know the tune or you don’t feel comfortable joining in – you won’t be the only one not singing. If you feel lost, don’t hesitate to ask someone for help.
Do I have to put money in the collection plate?
We take a collection during the service to support our ongoing mission and ministry. Making a financial contribution is completely voluntary. If you would like to contribute, you can use one of the envelopes for visitors which you’ll find in your pew, or you can put your contribution straight into the plate. A tax receipt is issued for all donations over $20. You can also make an e-transfer. Read more here.
Can I receive Holy Communion? What do I do?
Everyone is welcome to receive Communion or a blessing as appropriate at our services. You may choose to receive both the bread and the wine or just the bread. Gluten free wafers are available. Please ask the priest for these as you come to receive. If you wish to come forward but do not wish to receive simply place your arms over your chest to receive a blessing. When it’s time for communion, the sidespeople will stand in the centre aisle and direct people to go forward to the main altar at the front of the church, row by row. The priest will speak a short prayer and place the bread in your palm for you to eat. We drink real wine from a common cup or chalice, which will be offered to you after you’ve received the bread. It’s okay to touch or steady the cup as you take a sip. You can also choose to receive only the bread. Cross your arms over your chest when the cup approaches you, or just return to your seat once you’ve received the bread. If you need a gluten-free wafer, have any mobility concerns or would like communion brought to your pew, please speak to one of our greeters.
What happens after the service?
After the 10 am Sunday service, during the school year we gather for fellowship and refreshments in the parish hall, which can be found by taking the door to the right of the altar (just follow the crowd!) In the summer, we gather on the front lawn for some lemonade. We hope to see you there and get to know you better.
Looking for a Church Home / Wanting more information
Please fill out one of the contact cards provided at the back of the church and either place it in the plate as it goes past or give it to one of the clergy or greeters after the service. The greeters will provide you with a pen if you need one.
